Bioclear™ Pink Kit - Anteriors
UFI and UUI - The Universal Flat Incisor and Universal Upper Incisor Anatomic Matrices are the workhorse anterior matrices. They work well for:
- UFI - Mesial and Distal of upper lateral and central incisors. No modifications needed in most cases.
- UUI- Distal of upper lateral and central incisors and both sides of canines.
- Lower incisors and lower canines. You may want to trim back the sides for smaller teeth. In addition, you may want to trim back the Gingivo-Lingual and Gingivo-Facial corners so that the matrix will seat completely to the depth of the sulcus. The UFI is preferred because the lower incisor tooth is fairly flat.
- Mild diastema closure: Mild gingival diastemas will close very nicely with the UFI or the UUI. Rule of thumb for space closure: Please see the “green sheet” for diastema closure and “Black Triangle” closure directions.
BioclearTM Anterior Specialty Matrices
RDUI, RMUI, LMUI and LDUI - The Right Distal Upper Incisor, the Right Mesial Upper Incisor, Left Mesial Upper Incisor and Left Distal Upper Incisor matrices are side specific and surface specific. Although designed for uppers, their smaller size and cingulum shape on the lingual make them very acceptable for lower incisors. These matrices do not have an exaggerated cervical curvature and are not designed for black triangle elimination. These will ship in early 2009.
CLINICAL GUIDELINES FOR MATRIX AND INTERPROXIMATOR SELECTION
- Contact is intact: For large or deep composites these BioclearTM anterior matrices are “hands free” and can be used without an interproximator if the contact is intact. In other words, the matrix fits so intimately that the pressure of the gingiva can seal the gingival margin. Alternatively you can try a Narrow Isthmus InterproximatorTM or Thin InterproximatorTM to gently snug the matrix against the tooth.
- Gingival diastema closure (contact is intact): Same general instructions as above
- Contact is broken: If there is very little natural cervical undercut available for the Interproximator to slide into, then create a “ hip” or “home” for the Interproximator by bonding a small amount of flowable composite into the gingival area, 1 or 2 mm in height, light cure, then snap in an Original Interproximator (or place a wedge) that will provide tooth separation for a nice snug contact. Then proceed with injection molding filling protocol. The Original Interproximator will provide enough tooth separation to overcome two Bioclear matrix thicknesses in anterior teeth! (back to back matrices are NO PROBLEM)
- Gingival (“Black Triangle”) plus incisal diastema closure: First create a “home” for the Interproximator (or wedge) by bonding a small amount of flowable composite into the gingival area, light cure, then proceed as directed above.
